Dhea Natasya blossomed from a ripping shortboarder to a styling longboarder in a very short time. With Kuta Beach as her backdrop she was a top Indonesian Pro Junior shortboarder in her teen years. Leading up to the 2019 Olympic-sanctioned Southeast Asian Games she was representing Indonesia in shortboarding. Needles to say, this was a very big deal for such a young woman.

As fate would have it, 10 months before the event she was surfing a longboard division for fun in a local Kuta contest. National Surf Team Head Coach Arya Subyakto watched her performance and saw huge potential, persuading her to join and train for the national longboard team. Dhea agreed and was put into the ultimate training camp with Indonesia’s Longboard Champions in Batu Karas and its renowned longboard waves.

Dhea came back to Bali from training with a natural cross step and a heavy noseriding game. More than anything she was inspired by single fins and classic longboard surfing. The longboarding crash course paid off in spades with Dhea taking the Gold Medal for Indonesia in Longboard Surfing at the 2019 Southeast Asian Games held in the Philippines.

The momentum hasn’t let up one bit with back to back to back wins on the Indonesian pro tour. On the world stage most recently saw her in 2nd at the inaugural 2023 WSL Korea wave pool event where she competed in snow for the first time, and a 2nd at the 2024 Twinkle Toes Invitational with Harrison Roach in Bali, both against some of the world’s best women.

Growing up in Kuta Beach gave Dhea the perfect training grounds for surfing. Her family run beach bar business brought her whole family to the beach everyday. Located directly in front of the family biz is Kuta’s famed sandbar break known as Halfway. She, along with her brother Dhany Widianto (also a top pro surfer), trained hard in Kuta’s sand bottomed surf, mastering it’s moody beauty at a young age. They say if you can surf good at Halfway, you can surf good anywhere. And with both siblings winning and finaling in events locally and overseas, the proof is in the pudding.

Beyond competition the truth is that Dhea is a pleasure to watch on a longboard. She has the catlike reflexes from her shortboarding to anticipate and navigate difficult sections. Longboard training has slowed down her tempo allowing natural Hang tens, fives and cross steps combos with super smooth rail turns. More than anything Dhea possesses amazing wave sense seemingly able to decode the ocean and find the best waves even in onshore closeout conditions.

Day by day Dhea is living the surfer’s dream in Bali. Recently she was sponsored by Drifter Surf Shop and has also been enjoying surfing and competing on our fins on the road. Things are happening for her and the spotlight is just warming up. We wish Dhea good luck and can’t wait to see where the surf will take her.
