Anne is a remarkable individual who has achieved success both on and off the longboarding scene. Born and raised in “Wijkiki”, the Netherlands, she has become a household name as the two-time NK Dutch Longboarding Champion (2023, 2022 & 2018). However, Anne's accomplishments extend far beyond her sporting achievements. With a deep passion for the environment, she actively engages in local environmental campaigns and works as a forest ranger, dedicating herself to the preservation and protection of natural landscapes.
As a longboarding champion, Anne has left an indelible mark on the Dutch surfing community. Her exceptional skills, style, and determination have propelled her to the top of the sport. Anne's agility and grace on the board, coupled with her innate ability to read the waves, have earned her the respect and admiration of her peers. Her dedication is evident and why she was chosen to represent The Netherlands in El Salvador at the 2023 ISA World Surfing Games. Her efforts helped propel the team to 17th place out of 32 countries, some known as famous surfing destinations.
Another major accolade is winning the hotly contested 2022 “Op De Neus” specialty noseriding event in Scheveningen, Holland’s “surf city”. This particular event showcased her toes-on-the-nose ability against the best of Holland. Competition was fierce with Anne behind in the final until she caught the buzzer beater winning wave in the last 90 seconds. This was icing on the cake after recently being crowned the Dutch 2022 National Champion, both events being won surfing our Cruiser and Pivotal fins.
Beyond her accomplishments as a longboarder, Anne is a passionate advocate for environmental conservation. Most recently saw her involvement with the Netherlands Surfrider Foundation and Greenpeace taking action against Tata Steel. Tata Steel operates a massive steel factory adjacent to Anne’s hometown of Wijk Aan Zee (Wijkiki). Massive amounts of pollution from the factory puff from fiery smokestacks, crop dusting nearby villages causing respiratory issues in residents. This Summer the movement gained a major win with Tata Steel having to shut down their worst pollution-causing departments.
Anne’s work as a forest ranger allows her to directly contribute to the preservation of forests and wildlife in her region. In short, local flora and fauna are able to be preserved and thrive thanks to rangers like Anne. For her it’s a double bonus being able to combine her love of the outdoors while caring for her native land.
Whether she's carving the waves, working as a forest ranger, or campaigning for environmental causes, Anne's enthusiasm and determination shine through.
The world is Anne’s oyster and a better place because of her. Whatever direction she chooses in life we are sure that it will be one that leaves only footprints and spray off the top of waves. Pachamama must be proud.
