The Hull Flex is our immediate recommendation along with the Sickle Flex fin for midlength surfboards. This 9” fin features a narrower base and a longer rake with semi-flexy tip designed for looser yet controlled surfing lines. Built as a solo fin for mid lengths, this fin also works on longboards and 1 + 2 set ups.

This is the second most flexy fin we make after the Sickle Flex which becomes noticeable when bending the tip. This creates a lighter feel when turning this fin. Combined flex with the narrow base width really frees up this fin and makes turning the board easy. Try comparing it to your previous 9” fin and the difference will be noticeably evident.

The first comment most heard is that this fin is great for carvey surfing. Think sweeping cutbacks, down turn carves and long drawn out bottom turns. All this with control and ease of motion in one.

Feedback from the lineup says 8’ range Colapintail and Gato Heroi midlength boards paired well with the Hull Flex fin. Vee bottom tail shapes felt snug and slashy, meaning the board felt easy to turn as hard as you want on. The reviews were great as several other fins had been previously surfed on these boards and the Hull Flex came out on top.

On mid lengths the single fin alone should be stable enough due to the 9” length. On longer longboards (9’6” and up) or for heavier turning surfers added side bite fins can help hold the extra board nicely. Longboard purists often scoff at side bites, aka “training wheels”, but consensus is that in heavy barrels, solid waves and performance maneuvers they become relevant. Overall most surfers prefer to ride this fin as a stand-alone single.

If you are searching for something fun to ride on different boards the Hull Flex is a great fin to start with. What fin works and feels best for you is what matters most so play around and experiment with fins to find your happy medium. One this is for sure though, you are going to have a stack of midlength fun with this fin.
