Performance Pivot in a lightweight package. 

The Fibe template is a performance pivot fin shape that turns easily while still giving good control on horizontal trim. Sticking to the fun and easy concept it’s a great everyday fin to surf when the waves are looking average. Actual shape and concept of this fin falls between the Pivotal and Come Back models in the Makai Fins collection. Almost everything about this fin differs from the others in the line, but in a good way.  

Most notably different here is the construction which is not handmade volan but made from a fin mold. This production technique still uses 100% resin and fiberglass to build the fin which maintains nice strength integrity and performance. Fin weight is also reduced making the Fibe the lightest of our fins per square inch (or centimeter). In high impacts these fins tend to break easier than the volan models, hopefully sparing the fin box and board.  

A good amount of flex comes from this mold production method and you will notice this immediately. Though not billed or built as a traditional flex fin, it is among the flexiest in our range. This flex along with the pivot shape and lighter weight make for a highly maneuverable feel through turns. Perfect combo for weaker waves or small days to keep the board moving and feeling light on your feet.  

On the flip side the Fibe also features a decent amount of tip rake and a full body surface area. This helps keep you planted in the wave face whether racing on a highline or cross stepping to the nose. Longboards around the 9 foot length plus or minus a few inches up or down are the ideal size pairing. Mini mals are fair game for this fin too, as the lightweight characteristics keep it from feeling too clunky.   

There was a split decision whether to add this fin to the collection not being 100% handshaped and volan. Finally it was included as it was deemed that like the other fins it is still full fiberglass. And due to the fact that it was a versatile fin fitted to a variety of wave conditions and surfing styles. Another factor was the friendly price point which makes this one of the most affordable fiberglass single fins on the market.  

Perfect as a fun alternative to switch it up on small days or as an everyday enjoyable performance pivot fin. Pack it on a trip as a backup in case something goes wrong with your go-to fin. Just switch it out and keep surfing. Chances are pretty good that this fin will become your Plan A choice. In more ways than one The Fibe is something fresh to ride.
